Iona McCraith is the Advisor for the Archives Association of Ontario and also maintains a private practice as an archival preservation consultant. Previously Iona worked for the Canadian Conservation Institute in Ottawa; as Senior Conservator, City of Toronto Archives; Head Conservator, Archives of Ontario and as AAO Preservation Consultant. From 1999 – 2005 she was also a sessional instructor in the Collections Conservation and Management Program at Fleming College, Peterborough. Iona holds a BA from York University and an Applied Arts Diploma in Museum Technology, conservation specialization, from Algonquin College. She also holds Certificates in preservation from the Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles and from the International Centre for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, Rome. Throughout her career she has served in various volunteer capacities including Director on the Board of Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artist Guild; Member of the National Needs Assessment Steering Committee; Member of the Canadian Archives Association Preservation Committee and Chair from 2010 – 2012 and member of the CCA Archives Advisors Working Group. Iona has a particular interest in emergency planning for cultural institutions and many years of experience in emergency response and salvage of heritage collections.
